Purple Trainwreck crosses Granddaddy Purple with Trainwreck, and both parents are audible. Grape and berry sit on top; the sharp, peppery Trainwreck character runs underneath and keeps it from reading as a simple fruit cartridge.

Granddaddy Purple Meets Trainwreck
Both parents are well established and pull in opposite directions. Granddaddy Purple is heavy, sweet and grape-forward; Trainwreck is sharp, peppery and famously bracing. A cross between them could easily have resolved into mush.
It does not. The grape sits clearly on top and the pepper runs underneath, and at the right voltage you can taste the join. That legibility is unusual and it is the reason the strain has stayed in production.

Purple strains are often bought for the sweetness and abandoned when it turns monotonous. The Trainwreck base is what prevents that here, it does the same structural job that acidity does in a fruit profile.
