What is a DC Mak Magic Mushroom Strain?
DC Mak, also called DC Melmac, is a Psilocybe cubensis strain isolated from Melmac, which is itself a Penis Envy variant. It was developed by a grower known as “DC” and is known for its potency.
Origin and Genetics of DC Mak
Melmac is believed to come from Penis Envy, a man-made psilocybin variety bred by mushroom hobbyists. DC Mak was isolated from that Melmac line to get consistent, potent fruiting bodies,. We also carry the Phobos Magic Mushrooms Strain.

Cultivation: How to Grow DC Mak Mushroom

1. Strain Selection
DC Mak usually comes as spore swabs: sterile medical swabs covered in spores and wrapped in foil.
2. Substrate Preparation
- Brown rice flour and vermiculite (PF Tek)
- Coco coir and vermiculite (CVG) for bulk grows
Sterilize the substrate in a pressure cooker.
3. Inoculation
Add the spores to the sterilized substrate in a still air box or under a laminar flow hood.
4. Incubation
Keep the substrate in the dark at 75-80°F (24-27°C). Full colonization usually takes 2 to 3 weeks.
5. Fruiting Conditions
- Temperature: 70-75°F (21-24°C).
- Humidity: 90-95% to encourage pinning and fruiting.
- Lighting: indirect light or a 12-hour light/dark cycle.
- Fresh air exchange: enough ventilation to stop CO₂ building up.
Pins should appear within 7 to 10 days.
6. Harvesting
Harvest just before the veil under the cap breaks. Twist and pull gently so you don’t damage the substrate.
7. Drying and Storage
Dry them in a food dehydrator on low until they’re cracker-dry. Store them airtight with desiccant packs somewhere cool and dark.

Specialist mycology vendors sell DC Mak spore swabs. They’re sold for microscopy, art or collection, not for cultivation where the law prohibits it.
Recommended DC Mak Dosage
Penis Envy genetics are potent, so start low. General guidelines for dried mushrooms:
- Microdose: 0.1g-0.3g, a subtle shift in mood.
- Low dose: 0.5g-1.5g, mild effects with light visuals.
- Moderate dose: 2g-3.5g, strong visuals, altered perception and introspection.
- High dose: 4g+, an intense trip with possible ego dissolution.
Be careful with dosing, and think about having someone you trust with you.
